Bobbie Gentry, from her second LP "The Delta Sweete".

I'd like to see a biopic of her life, but directed by somebody with the touch of Douglas Sirk.

Apparently featured in series 2 of "Fargo", my toon-referrer tells me.

Next month wil see the 50th anniversary of the release of Ode to Billie Joe. And another anniversary, just past - the events of the song took place on "the third of June, another sleepy, dusty, Delta day”.
One of the locations mentioned in Ode, Carrol County MS, was the setting of another rather intriguing song, recorded by Porter Wagoner the following year. It was CMA Song of the Year in 1969.

OK, following on from this and Chris's posting of "Accidents Will Happen", here's John Prine's more amusing commentary "The Accident (Things Could Be Worse)"
