Homesick James, born James Henry Williamson; or William Henderson; or John William Henderson; or James Williams on 30th April, or 2nd or 3rd of May; 1905, 1910, 1914, or 1924 in Somerville, Fayette County, Tennessee [died 13th December, 2006]

Stefan Wirz's website now has an amended Homesick James d.o.b. of 2nd May, 1924 - a date which seems to have been found on his union records and arguably appears more likely than the earlier alternatives, provided that his claims to have played and recorded in Chicago in the 1930s and to have been the elder cousin of Elmore James (born 1918) are discounted. His first known recording was in 1952, and his first session as a member of Elmore’s Broomdusters was in 1957 - maybe another bluesman to have claimed to have been older than he actually was?

‘Dust My Broom’ appearing on French TV in 1970 with the Aces (Louis & Dave Myers with Fred Below)
‘Working with Homesick’ - an instrumental with Roosevelt Sykes

‘My Baby’s Sweet’ (1963) - the B-side of his version of ‘Crossroads’ a single on the USA label which was later released on Sue in the UK - song often performed live by Jeremy with Fleetwood Mac
