Vayali Folklore Orchestra - bamboo music from Kerala

From what I gather this band is a fairly new group of young musicians from around the Bharathapuzha river in Kerala, seeking to forward the indigenous cultural forms of their region. Having had the joy of visiting Kerala I can well imagine this deeply laidback music finding its form along the river banks...

I was going to add that their music sounds distinctly different from South Indian music in general - even though malayali pop and film music often has the same sort of gentle lilt.

The live clip features a Japanese taiko drummer guesting and he fits in perfectly. Somehow Vayali's music ressembles Southeastern Asian music, from Indonesia etc. Note to self: another piece of cultural history to explore...
