This song is a funny one - an old italian tune given countless of versions over the years, some called "Guaglione", others "Bambino" (made an international hit by Dalida), some something else. This is one I have been enjoying recently.

M'Barka Ben Taleb is a tunisian singer who has made Italy her base. She mixes maghrebien and italian ingredients on her albums. Wish I could get hold of them...

Speaking of the song: "Guaglione" is also an old Italian film starring, among others, the youthful Terence Hill. And have you seen the French agent spoof OS 117? Inane and rather charming:

While I was listening to the two versions above I had the vivid but vague idea that I'd heard a maghrebi "Bambino/Guaglione" somewhere before. After all, they wouldn't have made it up on the spot for OS117. And this evening I found the magic word: chaabi. Sure enough, chaabi singer Lili Boniche is at least one artist responsible for it:

There was a good version of this song on an album by Pietra Montecorvino, which was popular amongst forumistas a few years ago:

A good one it is, thanks. I must have missed that one. I think M'Barka Ben Taleb did those background vocals, the two have collaborated on several occasions - I first came to know about them both when I saw John Turturro's documentary "Passione" about neapolitan music.

Speaking of which, and to bring this subject home, there is a live recording of the song from the Passione tour, featuring both singers:
