Martha Reeves - 75 today, born 18th July, 1941 (Eufaula, Alabama)

Martha & the Vandellas - Nowhere to Run - from “The Sound of Motown” 1965 UK TV special

‘What am I gonna do without your love’ (1966 lip-sync) - nice song, if not one of the more commercial Motown 45s of the period; written (with Sylvia Moy) & produced (with Ivy Jo Hunter) by Mickey Stevenson; it was M & the V’s least successful single of the mid 60s (#71 only). The group would be back with Holland-Dozier-Holland for their next release.

Martha solo, post-Motown in 1974 on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert with session singers including Clydie King replacing the Vandellas; and James Jamerson amongst the musicians - ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’; ‘Love (makes me do foolish things)’ (3:05); ‘Power of Love’ (6:10)
The only clip with James Jamerson from his post-Motown career I can remember having seen - he is most prominent on ‘Power of Love’
