Born Linda Pettifer in Hackney, London, 23rd August, 1947

I'd not seen these clips before from the 1982 "tour from hell" with Richard -

'Withered and Died'

'Dimming of the Day'

and singing as movingly as ever on the 2013 album "Won't Be Long Now" - 'If I Were a Bluebird'; tune by Ron Sexsmith, with Amy Helm (daughter of Levon) singing harmony vocal.

Very nice too, but it's a bit cheeky to claim composer credit for a traditional song with just a colour change (OK, a new tune too).

I guess you know the version by Ronnie Ronalde, John.

His impersonation of a blackbird is more noteworthy than his singing, I think. I didn't remember ever having heard of Ronnie Ronalde before when he was mentioned in an interview by Lol Coxhill in the 1970s;- John Peel was a fan - Ronnie recorded a radio session for him in 2002.

Linda does admit that "This story is a well known traditional tale" in the notes with her album.

One of my favourite singers, 70 today, although the internet suggests that she is no longer the most famous Linda Thompson.

‘All I See’ with Teddy Thompson - a song Teddy wrote for Linda’s 2002 album “Fashionably Late”

Richard & Linda on BBC-TV in 1981 - “A Little Night Music”

and briefly together once again in 2010 for a Kate McGarrigle tribute

I was at this concert, and didn't expect them to be performing together. I was pleasantly surprised at their lovely performance. In truth, when they appeared on stage together, I was expecting something like John and Mary out of Father Ted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTn6c1NMxjM

A vocal by Linda popped up on a recently uploaded youtube video from an LP of Brian Patten poems - something I've been searching for for ages!
