John Ray Sechler - born 25th December, 1919 (China Grove, North Carolina) - described on his website as a "Bluegrass Legend", with more than a little justification considering a musical career stretching back to 1935 during which he has played with, amongst others, Charlie Monroe, Jim and Jesse, the Stanley Brothers, and Flatt & Scruggs

'You Won't Be Satisfied That Way' - from the Flatt & Scruggs TV show - late 50s/early 60s
(removed from YT)

'Moonlight on my Cabin' (2010) - aged ninety appearing with the Whites in 2010. The posting indicates that he had undergone open heart surgery just a couple of months previously

I'm looking in! Haha! Whaddya gonna do? A habit is a habit. And SoTW is a good habit.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all us music junkies! Hope you all have fun. I've thought long and hard about this and what I've decided is that I am going to spend Santa's gift tokens on... MUSIC!

There are two other December birthdays in that second clip, Buck White (13th) and Sharon (17th). A clip of their own:

A happy Christmas to all.

Many singers and musicians have Christmas Day birthdays and Curly Seckler is the oldest survivor I'm aware of - he's 96 today.

'Please Help Me I'm Falling' with Flatt & Scruggs (after keeping the sponsors happy) 1960/1.

More recently - 'When It's Moonlight on my Cabin' at the Station Inn in Nashville with the youngsters Mac Wiseman (born 1925) and Jesse McReynolds (of Jim & Jesse; born 1929). I can't find a date for the clip, but Curly continued performing until 2012.

A biography will be published in 2016

And once again, a Happy Christmas to everyone who visits SoTW today.

And the same to you, John, and everyone else who looks in today - as Adam did in 2012, and I'm sure will do today too.

Down the pub soon. Free drinks until the landlord shows up..... a great annual tradition.

Hoping my fellow Forumistas are feeling fine and full of festive feistiness.

I'm drinking caffe corretto and listening to bluegrass mama Ola Belle Reed (thanks for the CD Santa).

Is that like gefilte coffee with a slice of carrot on top?

The tv film "Gambit", scripted by the Brothers Coen, has lost the competition against me going to bed.

Happy birthday Curly Jesus.
