Jimi Hendrix: Rainy Day, Dream Away (complete)

Postby Adam Blake » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:39 am

Nice splice! Nice analogue meters too.

Midsummer day blues:

"Hey man, take a look outside the window see what's happenin'."
"Hey man, it's rainin'. It's rainin' outside, man."
(toke) "Yeah, I see what you mean, brother."

Oh, I know you all know this. But isn't it great? Buddy Miles never played better (perhaps Mitch was watching him from the control room). Noel Redding despatched, grumbling, to the pub. Mike Finigan doing a fine Jimmy McGriff impression on hammond, Larry Faucette on congas, Freddie Smith on sax. Guitar player's not bad either...

Amazing. It still sounds incredible, after all these years. I suppose that this is as good a time as any to post a link to this:

Yes, indeed, Rob. I never get tired of it. Good music is like that. It's one of the ways you can tell it from the other kind of music.

Damn you, Rob! You could have warned me! I innocently clicked on the anonymous looking link and.....after enjoying the intro, as always, my eyes began to water, as always. I don't know why (and I think this topic has been addressed elsewhere here) but the first few bars of this song always make me cry, even while simultaneously laughing at that fact.

Sometimes I think that the intro to "Little Wing" is the most exquisite electric guitar playing ever recorded. Let's just say that if beauty makes you cry, its something to be proud of.

Thank you Adam. I don't feel such a pathetic fool now. I think you might be right, as there isn't anything or anyone I particularly associate with that tune and it is always just after the exquisite intro that water comes unbidden to my eyes.

But I'll shut up now.
