Clifton E. Gallup aka "Galloping Cliff Gallup" - born 17th June, 1930 (I couldn't find his birthplace - possibly Norfolk, Virginia) [died 9th October, 1988] - lead guitar with Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps from early 1956 until August that year - he was older than the rest of the group - married with a family - and didn't want to travel. He was persuaded to play on the sessions for Gene's second LP in September/October, but the total of 35 tracks he recorded with the Blue Caps appears to have been his final involvement with rock'n'roll.

'Be-Bop-A-Lula' - live on Alan Freed's New York radio show in August, 1956.

You gotta wonder if the exceptionally high standard of guitar playing on 50s rock'n'roll records - Cliff Gallup, Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Paul Burlison - was the result of these guys learning to play from non-rock'n'roll sources: country, blues, swing, jazz etc.
