Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. - born 14th June, 1931 (Blytheville, Arkansas) [died 23rd November, 1995] - his Motown biography had his year of birth as 1942 to make him appear aged 22 rather than 33 when he had his first hit with 'Shotgun'.

The producer/writers Johnny Bristol & Harvey Fuqua had the track recorded in 1967, but it took until the following year to persuade Junior to add his contribution, and a further year before Berry Gordy could be persuaded to issue it as a single. It proved to be his biggest seller.
