Curtis Lee Mayfield - born 3rd June, 1942 (Chicago) [died 26th December, 1999]

Curtis was born seventy years ago today.

The Impressions - 'It's All Right' - great colour clip from 1965 with original 1963 stereo recording

'We the People Who are Darker than Blue' & 'Give Me Your Love' - from the film "Save the Children" - filmed in Chicago, 1972 for Jesse Jackson's Operation PUSH convention

same film and concert as the previously posted clip of Marvin Gaye & 'What's Goin' On'

'Billy Jack' (1990; prior to his accident)

Following the accident Curtis could only sing a few lines at a time while lying down, but he still made a great final album - 'New World Order' (title track; 1996)

The Impressions - Sam Gooden (original); Fred Cash (joined 1960); & Reggie Torian (first joined 1973) have recently been recording a new album for Daptone

Love Curtis. Yes, New World Order was a great goodbye from a supremely talented artist. Thanks for the clips!
