Samuel Black - born 2nd June, 1932 (Paterson, New Jersey) - he had several hits during 1959/60, produced by Leiber & Stoller, with revivals of old songs including 'Lavender-Blue' & 'Always' (he didn't get a mention in Leiber & Stoller's autobiography).
'Raincoat in the River' (1961) - his best record I think. Produced by Phil Spector.

song by Aaron Schroeder & Chuck Kaye. Today is not a day for throwing your raincoat in the river.
Sammy had a few more releases into the mid 60s, including one 1964 single on Motown. I can see no news of him for the past few decades, but it is to be hoped that he's still around and celebrating his 80th birthday today.
Other songs by Aaron Schroeder (including quite a few for Elvis) -
