Studied or naive?
I still can't make my mind up after years of watching this clip. Don't miss the stumble at 20 seconds.
Some interesting background on them in Wikipedia.
(...baroque pop with madrigal-style harmonies?)

Possibly even more bizarre than the clip of Eleanor of The Cake singing 'I Got You Babe' with Tiny Tim from "You Are What You Eat".

This was their best record (song written by Jack Nitzsche & Jackie De Shannon) -
Kevin Ayers wrote the song 'Eleanor's Cake (Which Ate Her)' for Eleanor when her group broke up.

It gets even more bizarre, as we can see here. An actor, Frank Converse, recites "She's Leaving Home" with occasional choral support from The Cake.

I picked this up from Chelsea Lee's MySpace page where she says, presumably about this performance, "WE NEARLY THREW-UP AND HATED HAVING TO SING THE STUPID SONG". Fair enough. A gig's a gig, I suppose. I couldn't watch it more than once.

Chelsea spent a number of years on the London music scene in the late 60's (Kevin Ayers' connection noted above) as singer and writer, and other studio work. One more backroom woman who never gets the credit due.

Sadly it appears that Eleanor passed away at the end of last month, aged 66

'Baby That's Me'
