At long last the drought is over: a new album from an artist Charlie definitely admired. Aynur obviously doesn't go for walks in the Kurdish countryside very often. For goodness sake, take some water with you.

The video is directed by Fatih Akin, incidentally.

Thanks for the link Phil. Very nice. I wasn't too sure about it on the first listen, but I rather like it now.

I notice that Aynur will be representing Kurdistan in the Eurovision Song Contest this year -

I see Aynur has 59,000 fans on Facebook. So which 'roots' artists, assuming Manu Chao, K'Naan, & Gogol B are more roots/popular, can top that ?

For comparison :
Tinariwen 4,300
Salif Keita has 4,400
Amadou & Mariam 5,000
Mariza has 17,000
Youssou has 49,800
Coltrane 130,000
Gogol Bordello 174,000
Manu Chao 205,000
K'Naan 213,000
Miles Davis 268,000
Stevie Wonder 585,000
David Bowie has 962,000
Rolling Stones 1,300,000
Beatles 4 million
Bob Marley 5 million
Michael Jackson 15 million

enough already...
