Mariza

Postby guest » Wed May 04, 2005 2:52 pm

I was so mad to have missed the Mariza show while it was still up on
the BBC website - I listened to about half an hour and then had to
leave. Is there *any* chance that it might show up later as an archive,
or via Mondomix? I adore her, and have you to thank for discovering her
in the first place, when you appeared on Weekend Edition Saturday on National Public Radio in the US two years ago.

Wonderful show on Muscle Shoals etc. by the way, that one I caught in
its entirety. Wow.

Mariza archive

Postby Charlie » Wed May 04, 2005 5:54 pm

It will also be rebroadcast on Radio Multi Kulti in about three weeks' time, and then held on archive there for a week.

I have also cherry picked this one for the Mondomix radio archive, where it should be posted with a month. http://www.mondomix.com/en/radios.php

It's a time consuming process to copy the data into a form that can be heard on the web, and Mondomix is moving forward at roughly an hour a week, ie putting up shows in instalments. I passed the Toumani Diabate programme to my contact Daniel Brown while in Paris last week, and I see the first hour is already up.

The new shows are rather obscurely hidden behind the menu bar 'choose a programme' - I'm hoping they will change the format to make it more obvious what the latest programme actually is.

For the show with Mariza, start checking in about three weeks' time.

I'll be interested to know which other shows people would like to have access to on this semi-permanent basisis. I did ask the question before, but the process of fulfilling your requests was thwarted by the fact that many of the shows at that time had been copied to DAT, which is difficult for Mondomix to cope with.

They are saved on CD now, for dispatch to both Radio Multi Kulti in Germany and to Paris, a surprisingly old-fashioned method in this digital age.

Archived shows

Would it be possible to have the Tom Russell programme archived? Since the programme, I have played the "Hotwalker" album many times, and rate it very highly. In so many ways, there is great depth to this album, and it certainly merits a good deal of listening. I suspect that, like the novel "On the Road", I will be revisiting the album many times over years to come. Although seemingly long at 75 minutes or so, I think that the album is better played in one "sitting". I have lent the album to people at work, who have expressed a great deal of admiration, and who did not hear the programme - hence my suggestion for the archive.

Mariza at Mondomix

Postby Charlie » Fri Jun 03, 2005 10:35 am

The Radio Ping Pong with Mariza, broadcast from the studios of Radio Portugal in Lisbon on May 23, is now archived semi-permanently in the radio section at www.Mondomix.com where the window of recent programmes is much clearer and easier to use
