After I'd thawed out last night and went outside to see more of the northern lights .... it had clouded over and was drizzling. This went on for hours so I gave up and turned in for the night. Sigh

Went to see Richard Mabey talk this evening at the university, but when I got there the doors were locked. A student asked me what I wanted and I showed him my ticket to the talk and he said 'Tues 16th? That was yesterday - it's the 17th today'. I said 'no I think it's still the 16th' so he said 'oh yes - I'll let you in, but all the lights are out'. 'Doesn't look promising I quipped as we wandered down dim corridors and peered into dark lecture halls. I finally admitted defeat and decided the talk must have been cancelled and walked home. When I got back I had one more look at the ticket 'Tuesday 16th MARCH' not February!

I've never seen the aurora borealis but I did see Tom Stoppard walk past, deep in conversation, while Modeste was playing in the National Theatre foyer last Tuesday.

Well I've seen Walter Mathau at the mall a few times.

Today I saw Jacqueline Wilson in the street.

She wrote the Tracey Beaker books and The Illustrated Mum.

She looks like one of the grown-ups in Rugrats.

Slipped and fell on the street while I was returning from the grocery store. First one foot and then the other while I was trying to regain my balance. The grocery bag swung straight against the wall I was trying to lean against.

There went the olives and the strawberry jam (both in that bag, both in a glass jar).
I very, very narrowly escaped from any major bodily harm.

It seems I am prone to doing this at least once every winter. If you are familiar with Hergé's Tintin comic books, you may have a mental picture of the incident - I inevitably think of them every time:

I live in an apartment with coin operated washing machines. This morning I was doing my laundry & put my cloths in the washer & then found out I didn't have enough change to dry. I told my mom online & she laughed at me & joked about wearing my cloths wet. Ha ha! I might be able to do that if it was summer or I live in Florida.

Am sitting at hope sulking and sighing because:

The ferries were cancelled yesterday and today because of storms
Even if I had made it to the mainland very heavy snow has closed the road
The conference I was due to attend has been postponed
My booking in a swanky hotel has been cancelled

So instead, by way of excitement, I am going to fit a carpet.

I'm having trouble with the G-scale. I've been kind of stuck.

A very sad day. I waited all day to find out what was happening with my mom's cat Simba since yesterday. He had a stroke, & was in the animal hospital all night. My step-father said he had been in a lot of pain yesterday & couldn't use his legs, so the rushed him to the hospital. My mom is very sad to loose her baby. To some people, he would only be a cat, but too us he was like our baby, for me, from caring for him for so long. It feels like a real loss.

This is sad news, Dayna. I can't imagine life without my Tom, so I can sympathise with the sense of loss.
