It's so much more than your ordinary corkscrew!

Of course rigging that up with a small steam engine would make it the perfect steampunk kitchen appliance...

It was ingenuity such as this that led to England's pre-eminence in creating the Industrial Revolution and the foundation of capitalism.

As well as slavery, of course.

the sort of ingenuity that makes a contraption about 10x more complicated (and slower) than necessary just for the true joy afforded by cogs, gears, springs and cams working together!

To think, the Youtube of the Heath Robinson contraption (which was great in it's absurdity) gets a viewing that reflects the population of Birmingham, whilst Prof Longhair gets about the population of my house (2). (See Jamie's TWSH posting for today). Sad, sad, sad. My house loved it though. Oh yes, the major flaw in HR contraption - it doesn't allow the wine to chambre. Quel horreur.

In case the father of ridiculous contraptions, Heath Robinson, isn't known in Finland, Kas.
