Had a very nice encounter on Sunday that people here will appreciate... I was taking part in a walk from Barking Abbey to St Ethelburga's in aid of St Ethelburga's (this wasn't designed as an excuse to mention it but I do have a sponsorship page she says meakly http://bit.ly/1rdDIum). Was chatting to another walker who asked me how it was that I discovered St Ethelburga's and started going there... And so it was that I talked about having discovered this forum when I was living in Madrid and listening to Charlie Gillett. Turns out that he too is another one still in mourning over the loss and bemoaning the lack of anything remotely as good to hit the airways.

I had a similar experience once. I was at the bar at the Borderline, waiting for the Amazing Rhythm Aces to start their show. I got talking to another fan who commented on the size of the crowd and asked me how it was that I had heard of the ARAs. Charlie was on the other side of the room and I pointed to him and said something along the lines of "...that guy over there...". The guy was gobsmacked (a) because Charlie's show was where he had first heard of the ARAs too, and (b) because his (and my) hero of the airwaves was actually in the room.
