Spotty white kids with guitars

Postby Des » Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:44 pm

Is there any future for 'indie' music? Is guitar-based pop music finished or, like Howard's figurative painting, is it going to find new and interesting modes of expression for decades to come?

I've tried to wean a work colleague off of it by playing him some Fela Kuti and classic Congolese rumba but he's immune to its charms.

I loved the Smiths and I think Radiohead are exceptional - otherwise it's all just repetition. BORING!

But you said that Bozo Bingtrousers was very good! And I am good, aren't I? Very, very, very good! A real bing in the trousers. That's what we have together, isn't it, Des? You meant what you said over in Charlie's MySpace Friends, surely you did. I really, really liked what you said about me. It was so very, very nice of you to say that. We have a future together, don't we, my little top predator. Don't break my heart now. We're together forever, aren't we?

If CG doesn't, I have friends in dark and dusty places and he will get a Denial Of Service attack, alternatively I shall send him an email mentioning mucky aberdeen and sentecks and I'm sure the boys in blue will swoop.

Oh crumbs, they're at my door, 'scuse me, need to go...

(I had to use those phrases, for mujahadeen and , well got to be careful!)

As I said, elsewhere in the forum: But with respect to all the various views and opinions on the forum, Des has spent so much time playing with the form of postings and attempting to stir things up and doing other jokey things, or at least he thinks they're jokey, that if someone decides to play with him, it's kind of only a fair turnaround, don't you think?

Seriously, Des, you've displayed such an attitude towards the forum as your personal plaything, even recently, that you can't really blame someone for having a little fun with you. I might say "lighten up" but that comment was already used by someone else and didn't meet approval. It seems to me that you can dish it out, but can't take it. Just my personal opinion.

I have a new little aphorism that I am finding immensely helpful as I face the daily challenges of life: If you can't laugh at it, ignore it or pretend it doesn't exist. So why not laugh at what Bozo Bingtrousers is up to? I think it's kind of funny. Why don't you? Because it's at your expense instead of you joking at others' expense as you're used to? Just a couple of questions to think about

It was Adam who objected to Bozo not me! He said it was all a bit rude or something.

Anyway.

What? You're Adam now as well?

We're not all uptight about Bozo's apparently homosexuality, are we? We're not discriminating against gays in this forum now, I hope.

As young bands go, I quite like 'The Feeling', and 'Scouting for Girls'. Nothing at all new or original in their music ('Scouting for Girls' in particular, more or less rehash the same tune for every song!), but they're quite catchy!

And remember: it's 'new' and 'interesting' to young people ....
