Radio 4's Today programme this morning carried an interesting little piece on the origins of the jewish tune Hava Nagila. The blurb on the relevant webpage says: "This week, celebrations are under way to mark the centenary of the writing of the lyrics to the unofficial unofficial jewish anthem, Hava Nagila." It's available on Listen Again but, as far as I can see, it doesn't feature on the podcast of the show (which appears to be just selected items). Anyway, if anyone (Norman?) wants to check it out, it can be heard via the link on this page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listenagain/, and it aired at 7:40am.
Coming very late to this post - I must have been away when you put it here, Rob.
I hate this song! Used to have to sing it in days when I had little choice over religious education. We changed the words, of course, to Have A Gorilla. In later years, this became Have A Tequila.
