BREAKING NEWS......BREAKING NEWS........BREAKING NEWS......

SPORT......The Ryman League Intercontinental Battle of the tribute bands sees a three way play off in the championship division. The teams involved are
LUX DELUXE, MANGWANA BATZ, & ZAIKO LINGER LONGER. The winners will meet STARSHIP ENTERPRISE, the american west coasters in the World Final. STARSHIP sensationally beat red hot favourites THE FIFTH BEATLES to claim their place in the final. The distraught captain of the FIFTH BEATLES, Preston Billy, found their unexpected defeat impossible to explain, "At first it was just George M. and me and a bunch of loop tapes and we was really cookin' but since we got Stuart Somebody on the bad bass, and George Best back on the sticks we bin' unbeatable......'til today." Asked if he himself had felt sore about being substituted and upstaged by Eric C on guitar he said, "Ah well, That's the Way God Planned it, though, for myself, I really hoped that Terje Rypdal would've been fit for the guitar slot. If anyone would've pulled us out of the fire there the Norwegen would."

Meanwhile....RON GALA & THE SHUFFLING TANZANIANS finally overcame their visa problems and have crossed the Atlantic for their exhibition tournament. They will play those reggae irregulars, PRIMATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN in MORY COUNTY on the 23rd, and THE KNIGHTS in Havana on the 26th.

The THINK FLOYD show resumes it's run at the Appollo stadium now that Eddie is recovered from the Rockin' Pneumonia. Yeah, Things Get Better !

Back in Bluesville, legendary Natchez washboard and castanet king, Lonesome Huckleberry has been speaking about his new album for the Starbucks' label. On the album he revisits his three modest hits and records them in duet fashion with, amongst others Sting, Elton J............

Does this one count? Today I came across a Klezmer group called Oy Division - they really exist. *

(And I know this probably won't count but I also came across a group called Rich Clifford & The Saddows - not world music, but I wanted to include them.)

*Edit - strange, perhaps. See discussion elsewhere http://www.charliegillett.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=4956

not a world music tribute band, but what an unsurpassably choice name, and selective choice of repertoire too (first 3 albums & some solo Eno):

edit: just watching the embedded Youtube clip, not bad at all
