There was an article on this a few days ago. It is the reason why people are so against having so much government. It just keep growing beyond control.

From the second of your links:

"Some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies work on programs related to counterterrorism, homeland security and intelligence in about 10,000 locations across the United States."

It's not just government, it's big business as well, as in the military-industrial-congressional complex. The trouble is that political parties and candidates need funding, and the most obvious source is big business, which provides politicians with jobs and consultancies when they're out of and after they've left office in return for government contracts and other favours when they're in office.

Dayna, you seem to be overdosing on this kind of thing at the moment. Dare I suggest you lighten up?!

I can only agree with Prof Foxlee! Please don't fall for the "we need less government" line. It's just a sop to keep people angry and confused and hating whilst beneath the smokescreen big business grows ever more powerful as the few checks and balances that are left standing are under more and more pressure of removal.

The plutocrats and oligarchs that I mentioned to you the other day are not IN government. They EMPLOY the government. And if there were no government, they would still be there.

If you really want to make a difference in the short term, organise pressure groups to limit political campaign contributions and for transparency in the wheelings and dealings of Washington lobbyists.

Also - CORPORATE PERSONHOOD is the biggest single thing wrong with the United States system of justice. You must fight to have it stricken from the statutes.

Good luck!

I don't really know the the answers on this. It does make sense to limit big corperations contributions so the rest of average people can have more of a say in things.

American suspicion of big (i.e. central) government goes back to the founding of the United States, when the colonies rebelled against British government taxation without representation. And then, of course, you had the South rebelling against the North in the Civil War.The US is so huge that for most people, Washington is as remote as England was to the colonists - it's like Brussels for Brits.

Oligarchy (rule by a few) or plutocracy (rule by the rich): it comes down to the same thing.
