Lovely! Thank you. I'm not so sure about "Mourka, the cat who served at Stalingrad", however.

I have, honestly, met Trotsky's cat - well, the cat that lived in the Mexico City house with Leon Davidovich's grandson (where his grandfather was assassinated).

I do hope this Greek dog does exist, in spite of my scepticism. We need many more like him / her.

You met Trotsky's cat in Mexico City, Norman? I was amazed in scanning the book, how many literary greats had cats nearby, looking over their shoulders even.

About Kanellos, after seeing a couple of RIP Kanellos comments on the YouTube videos, I was curious and began reading the internet and have discovered several references (comments on blogs and the like) that say there was a dog named Kanellos who lived in the 'technical university in Athens' for 10 years and was involved in protests and died in 2008. One site showed a photo of his grave inside the grounds of the 'Polytechneio university in Athens'. Several commentators from Exarxeia say the dog called Kanellos in the recent YouTube videos etc lives in Exarxeia and state his name as Louk, or Theodore(us). To find all these comments/articles, I googled 'exarxeia dog louk' (http://tinyurl.com/364buj7). Though many of the comments in some of the threads must be ignored (as usual) and there are the usual difficulties in trying to glean the truth from the comments, it's quite a read, including comments about the stray dogs of Athens/Exarxeia, the history of the 'original' Kanellos, and earlier riots in Greece.
