These two kind of remind me of a lot of the technocrats of Silicon Valley — a vague intention of doing good by doing well. Didn't Gary Clail or some other On-U Sound artist have a line that went along those lines?

Though I would share the 'Tory toff, no thanks' feeling and might even stretch to the w word if pushed, the compromises that are being made are interesting. Surely raising the tax threshold to £10K is doing something for poorer people?

The smooch-in in the Number 10 back garden was a bit too honeymoon good to be true though. The grinning public school Blair link was clear: two young(ish) men looking like the cats who'd got the cream. No sense of humility or service (despite the 'national interest' cant), just self-satisfied entitlement - and the cream is the power itself, rather than anything they're going to do with it, just as it was with dear departed Tony.
