Apologies for the late notice, but Tulsehill Charlie sent me an email about this. Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but there is to be a screening of the film about New Orleans musician, James Booker at Morley College on Friday 23rd January at 7.30pm.

Address: 61 Westminster Bridge Road, SE1 7HT

It is free, but a donation for the funding of the film will be asked for at the door. There will also be a Q&A with the director Lily Keber as well.

I'm going now, so will be able to check up on how much you enjoy it, Jamie. If anyone wants a coffee beforehand, I'll see you in the refectory at 7.00 (go in main entrance, go through the lobby, left up the stairs).

Bayou Maharajah explores the life and music of New Orleans piano legend James Booker, the man Dr. John described as "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced." A brilliant pianist, his eccentricities and showmanship belied a life of struggle, prejudice, and isolation. Illustrated with never-before-seen concert footage, rare personal photos and exclusive interviews, the film paints a portrait of this overlooked genius.
