AFRICAN ESSENCE is EVERY THURSDAY at 7.15-8pm on and 104.4fm London. We play cutting edge and classic African music from all destinations with lots of tracks you might not find elsewhere.

We invite a truly diverse mix of interviewees with artists of all genres and backroom movers and shakers and this week LUCIAN MTAMASI (No1 Ladies' Detective Agency/Arturo Ui) is our guest. If you think this is a double take you are right because I said we'd broadcast this interview last week ahead of the very faithful and entertaining No1 Ladies' Detective Agency film on BBC1 last Sunday (anyone see it - what did you think?) (We were glad to give more time to Samy Ben Redjab when the technicals went funny)

However we promise it'll come through this week!

We've got a lot of new music including Ghana's HipLife, Delhi2Dublin, Asa and more. If you have new Afrocentric stuff you'd like to send us - or people you can put our way - that's very welcome.

PLAYLISTS are in alongside selected audio archive and a competition.

Next week Plan A is to include an interview I did with Chilean photoactivist Alfredo Jaal whose excellent exhibition challenging representation of Africa is at the South London Gallery until April 6th

We are also on Open Air Radio out of SOAS - back on alternate Thursdays after their Spring break. Selected repeats go out on on Tuesdays at 10pm/Weds at 5pm

Feedback is welcome. It would be interesting to know who amongst y'all listens! There's a good number of you read these posts! Thank you! DJ Debbie and Anne Wanjie.
