Young Joey, who occasionally lets me play records on the radio.....
from Will Vine, in another post hereabouts. We need the facts, Will, chapter and verse please.

And we should also know about - and listen in to:

- Aly Prince's weekly folk and roots one-hour show on RNIBConnect Radio. It's been going for several weeks now, has a weekly theme, and is really very good. Do give it a listen - each Weds eve at 21.00 hrs UK time (repeated Sun at 16.00 hrs)
http://listen.insightradio.co.uk/radioplayer/index.html

- Deb Smith (who's known to many of you, and particularly to me) is doing a weekly show on Radio Nope, an Oakland, Calif based internet radio. Her show is called "Hit It & Split", and she introduces an hour's worth of music that would do these pages proud.
http://www.radionope.com/

Tomorrow, she's doing two one-hour shows as part of Radio Nope's anti-Inauguration weekend of protest music. Her slot starts at 12.00 midday UK time.

Maybe Aly and Deb can post their playlists here?

I thought I'd done this but maybe not. I'll be back with the full nine yards soon.

It would have stood out like a flower in the desert.

ON THE RADIO (chapter in verse)

An Englishman and an Irishman went into a pub
(The Scotsman was away)
The Irishman had, under his arm,
A record he wanted to play.

For it was Vinyl Night in the bar
(Like an old record club of yore).
You could play whatever you wanted to
To entertain or bore.

"What's that you have there Young Joey?"
The Englishman asked with a smile.
"Ah 'tis an African called Fela Kuti.
I doubt it'll be your style."

Old England's eyes lit up.
For this assumption he had no use.
"I'll see," said he, "Your Fela Kuti."
And whipped out a Sipho Mabuse.

Young Joey looked at him blankly,
Clearly he didn't know Sipho,
But he recognised a fellow traveller
The old geezer could help with his show.

Now it transpired that Young Joey
Was a part time radio dj
And Afro. Techno. Electro. Jazz
Was what he liked to play.

He had though little of it
And downloaded most of his stuff.
He had what he had and knew what he knew
But he figured it wasn't enough.

The two men agreed that night
That their record collections should meet.
At first sight of the old guy's vinyl
Joey prostrated himself at his feet.

"Get up off your knees man.
I'm not a guru or sage.
I've just got too many old records
'Cos I was born in The Golden Age."

"Come and play this stuff on my show" said Joe
It should be some sort of fun.
Re-mix, Sample, and Mash-up
I'll show you how its done".
(and so......it has begun)

Diverse Frequencies is presented by Joey McEvoy at 7pm on saturday on Deal Radio , a digital station with an audience well into double figures. The aged Englishman guests in episodes 17 (26/11) & 20 (17/12) available via Mixcloud.

Got a big list of jobs to do, fortunately one of them was catch up with the broadcast delights of Deb, Adam, and Ali. Great Sunday afternoon so far.
