For those unaware who might be interested, Iggy Pop is hosting a two hour radio show on Radio 6 and it is very entertaining.

Thanks Adam. Isn't he delightful; just like your favourite uncle.

Another good show yesterday - Iggy plays not only great old school r&r and blues but tunes by Cesaria Evora, Central African Pigmies and others. I think he's a better DJ than Bob Dylan (whose radio show always struck me as very scripted) and far better than Jarvis who was dull as hell in both music and chat.

I believe Dylan's show was very scripted. Charlie spoke of turning down an offer to do a show on that station because the deal was he was recorded speaking to a script and the music was inserted later. He said no way would he do a show like that. He would only do it live so he could respond to the music as it happened. Iggy is excellent as like Charlie, he's having a musical conversation with the audience

It's Iggy's 67th birthday today (April 21st), by the way.

Iggy's on great form today - all kinds of roots music (flamenco, Tuareg, Hill Country blues etc) - along with the occasional Radio 2 tune (Riders On The Storm...).

As much as I find Iggy's show entertaining, I was screaming at the radio this weekend when he was going on about how Chuck Berry wrote 'Down Home Girl' before the Stones covered it. Somebody buy that man a reference book.

Hah! He was probably thinking of the next track on the relevant Stones album which was "You Can't Catch Me" - an easy mistake to make.

(When I was young and had youth as an excuse for foolish devotion to rock'n'roll trivia, the band I played in used to do a cover of Don Covay's "Mercy Mercy" - after the Stones arrangement, of course, Covay's was much too difficult. We would always follow it with the opening chords of "Hitch Hike" because that's what came next on "Out Of Our Heads".)
