Robert Elms conducts a fine interview with Rod Stewart - for those of us who still bear some affection for the Highgate playboy this is worth listening to. Last 30 mins of Elms show.

Very enjoyable, but I wish "Elmsy" wouldn't keep interrupting. Even more, I wish he would pronounce the T at the end of the word Yet. Similarly, with the word But.

Buh.... and Yea.... are not Cockney idioms, they are Mockney idioms.

Adam, that website is not funny - it is sad, full of bitter middle aged men with hateful racist tendencies who loathe the fact that Elms has done well doing what they wish they could do. That one of them found a photo of his teenage son and posted it suggests a level of obsessive psychosis that is scary. Do you often go looking at websites like that? Not very Buddhist is it to be so revelling in vitriol and jealousy?

No, I stumbled upon it by typing "Robert Elms Mockney" into Google as I was curious to see if anyone else thought his pronunciation of certain words gave him away.

There were a couple of entries that made me laugh but I didn't encounter any racism or see a picture of his son. You must have looked at it more thoroughly than I did. Apologies if you were offended. I did put a gratuitous obscenity warning above the post.

My own experience of Elms is that he has considerably improved over the years.

If you read further down they start discussing the fact that he has a Chinese wife and making extremely disparaging comments about Asian women. One of them goes looking for a photo of her, can't find it but finds one of his 15 yr old. That is the most disturbing website I have seen in a long time - that a dJ who plays soul and jazz and country and chats about London attracts the kind of hate you might expect for say Tony Blair is extremely depressing.

You should know by now Garth, never to look at the bottom of the internet (i.e., comments sections). The opportunity to say anything about anyone really does bring out the worst in people and what it reveals about them is really quite scary. Some enterprising psychology student should do a study of it one day.

I am sorry if I put something hideous on SOTW. I am too scared to look now! Hah! I will remove it but, just to say, the vileness you refer to, Rob, is how people behave when they know they have impunity and anonymity. Strange that it so rarely brings out kindness and consideration. We're a savage little species, aren't we?

Strange indeed that impunity and anonymity so rarely encourage kindness and consideration, and so frequently encourages the opposite. But just for the record, I don't think it was necessary for you to remove the link.

Thanks, but, you know, we don't need any ugly shit up here! I'll be more careful in future.

Getting back to the subject matter - I found it infuriating that Robert Elms had Rod Stewart, no less, on his show talking about The Faces, for God's sake, and he kept interrupting him!!
