Shockingly misguided decision by the BBC suits yet again:

From the programme's Facebook page:

As you may have read the BBC has announced the closure of the daily arts programme The Strand in March 2013. Film, music, books and other coverage will move to a ten minute slot four days a week. There will be a weekend programme featuring arts from across the BBC

There has been much great music coverage, including many interviews over the years, along with all manner of other interesting arts coverage not duplicated elsewhere

Mark Coles' comment from a facebook thread on the Mike Harding sacking:

"Typical BBC. Why use people who know what they're talking about and care passionately about their subject. Sorry, Mike - I feel for you. Today they axed the arts and music programme (The Strand - BBC World Service) which I've been involved with for the past few years. Have bust a gut trying to make it broadcast-able for them - sitting up late into the night doing extra work and research only for some management ex News 24 reject with an austerity era clipboard to decide it doesn't fit in with a rolling news format. Plonkers. Philistines."

I despair, I really do.
