Cerys' Blue Horizon

Postby will vine » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:05 pm

Stumbled across Cerys Matthews little tribute to the british blues label Blue Horizon this morning on Radio 4. Not startling, but a cute little programme that could've sounded great given more time to fill with music. A few good anecdotes and including an interview with Mike Vernon. Many of my past, now valuable records passed before me. I particularly remember wearing down the vinyl on a Blue Horizon sampler called How Blue Can We Get? which included items by lesser noted performers like Jellybread, and Bacon Fat. Googling them both again now in idle curiosity I came across this by Jellybread (featuring Pete Wingfield).
O.K. Bobby Bland cannot be beaten but this sounds great to me.

Nice programme with Vernon saying of Peter Green "no one played so few notes and made them say so much". What music and what players!

I enjoyed it too, but one thing I thought was strange was that they didn't mention Duster Bennett.

(The best British blues musician there has ever been)

Well, I suppose they didn't mention Gordon Smith either, but he's less interesting in my opinion.

Seemed particularly surprising given Cerys Matthews was presenting, and Duster was born in Wales
