I would like to hear some Brazilian artists like Ed Motta and Jorge Ben Jor (my favorite, half-Ethiopian, fits with my 2nd generation Somali identity). BTW, why learn Spanish, when Portuguese is the language that the worlds most beautiful music is being made in. I have a list that is too long to input here, but I hope this msg generates some interests in these two artists.

Charlie, Your programmes seem to favour African (especially WEST African) music.

As the programme is supposed to be (quote) 'World' (unquote) music, could we hear some music from the Far East.

For example, from China, Japan, Indonesia, etc. please?

I really wanted to thank you for the amazing artists you made me discover!

It's precious to have somebody bringing us the best pollen from this huge garden of world artists. You are making a great honey out of it!

But I am a little bit frustrated because I use to listen to your programmes
thanks to the Mondomix Audio Archive of BBC London Shows and I can't find any more these archives. Furthermore, the BBC iPlayer only play the last week show.

Is there still a possibility to listen to your previous programs?

CG reply: Mondomix does plan to reinstate that archive of the Radio London shows but unfortunately in regard to the current programmes, the BBC does not have the rights to make its national network and World Service shows available for longer than a week

I think Donald is right, Mari Boine would fit very neatly into most CG shows. Just checked the album on Spotify, track 5, 'Mu Ustit Engeliid Sogalas' stood out for me on a first hearing.

Hi Charlie and Team. I was recently in Libya and heard a fab track - and am now trying to get hold of it in the uk. any suggestions as to good places to try - london or internet.

I have title in arabic on piece of paper but think translation is something like: Moserat Almadir or el sadnir and / or mezmar elmehdi - el tushani for the artist and 'madi seli' / hadeer elshelal for the track or album...

Would appreciate some help on this...

I had a customer asking for Libyan music only a couple of days ago - but there's nothing at all on the Stern's database. Sorry!

edit - come to think of it, I think the customer said he'd heard some great Libyan reggae...

Nothing to offer yet on places to try. I've been to Libya a couple of times in the last few years (music was not too common there), and emailed a Libyan friend today, who thought Mezmar el Mehdi - el tushani "sounded familiar". I've asked if he can find out any more. Will update here if I do get some info.

I looked on the BBC website for past program music lists, but could find none other than the most recent. I believe this was presented in North America within the past 4-6 weeks.

Sounds like Saban Bajramovic, the late Serbian king of Gypsy music. Charlie played a track from the Princes Amongst Men compilation back in mid-December:

Charlie you should sample Maureen Lilanda, She a Veteran Zambian soul musician.Her music is sheer poetry, she's the best Africa has to offer.
