The End of the World

A reminder that this week sees the penultimate edition of the program that has been so capably hosted over the past few months by Mark Coles. Maybe it's not the end of the world, but having scarcely missed a broadcast since the series started 20 or so years ago, first with Andy Kershaw, later with Lucy Duran and Charlie, and now with Mark, I'm going to feel its absence.

it is so sad. This is terrible news for the sound of the world. I have been listening to the programme since 7 years now and was greatly saddened after the death of Charlie. I have listened to the sound of the world programme presented by Mark with equal appreciation. It is the end of an era.

Indeed, Raj. 17 Hippies provide the final song on the last ever World of Music, followed by a touching sign-off by Mark Coles.

To be honest I woke up feeling sad already - I still haven't got up the courage to listen - but I shall - with a glass of red wine - nothing will be the same now. But it will be good to be in touch with all on Charlie's Forum from time to time. Music music music .......thank you Charlie and thank you Mark (sadly I didn't listen prior to their programmes) - always such a happy event in my week here in Turkey.

A wonderful last programme - I shall listen again and again - and the final track by 17 Hippies - a perfect choice by Mark. Gorgeous!

I also discovered 17 hippies through Charlie and the world of music show and I loved them since. The song was well chosen. It was a fitting tribute to surely one of the most popular and loved shows on BBC. Thanks Mark.
Charlie, your show will remain cherished in our hearts. Thank you for all these years.

I don't know what I'm going to do at 2:30 AM on Sunday mornings now. This program has been a huge part of my life for years now. I've never been good at keeping a schedule or been real into ritualizing things, but I did with this program. Thanks for exposing me to so much great music I never would have known otherwise.
