I feel a need to talk about the weather today. What forum should that thread be in? Looks like the UK finally got the weather we suffered from in the Pacific Northwest last December. C'est dommage! My sympathies. It will eventually pass. Stay strong. Drive slow.

Drive slow? I was, last night, and still skidded into that badly parked broken-down car. That wonderful moment when the car just won't stop. As you see it happening, you remember all the old road safety advice like "drive into the skid" and think, "What the fuck does that actually mean??", and then - bang.

Sorry about that, Norman. It is indeed true that at some point there is nothing one can do to avoid the inevitable. Ah! yes! That would undoubtedly be true by definition!!! Hope the car is alright and you obviously eventually got home. But, the use of that word "wonderful" is so adroit; there is a wonder to that moment when you know you are so far out of control that you are going to never regain it until you come to a stop wherever the resolution of forces shall dictate. I have experienced it several times in my driving life. It's almost a sort of release. You must accept. A very Buddhist moment.

When it comes to driving, it helps to have as many lives as a cat, but I'm sure you think that anyway.
