Spartacus goes walkabout.

Hi everyone, Gordon here. I've been away a long time and perhaps not picked up on the mood. Trust me to just dive in. Sorry if my pathetic brand of humour is irritating, no offence of any kind is meant as most of you will know.

I guess it's just that I missed making myself (and hopefully others?) laugh as I've had a pretty miserable year. Things are still not settled, as I'm now quite insolvent and haven't started my new job yet (subject to medical!) which is an information analyst for the local Fire brigade.

Anyway, I'll try and restrain the euphoria at my release from my bonds, but I hope the SAOL is still alive and welcomed.

On a slightly more serious note I have been trawling through Charlie's friends on myspace recently. How very interesting, especially on picking up on the good stuff that I found was being recommended on the forum - such as Devotchka.

It surprised me though to see how many bands put themselves forward as bands that Charlie would be interested in as they don't strike me as really fitting into his sphere of influence??? Still i guess any self promotion is better than none.

It also struck me though how there seems? to be a lack of anything fresh and vibrant or startling. Have we now reached the end of new, innovative forms of music? Has it all been done, Clearly the incredible meld of styles and genres has moved music on in amazing ways, but is this now it?

Any thoughts?

Any saols?

:-)

Hail, Spartacus! Nice job of typing with those nails through your hands. I'm sorry your "real" life has experienced turbulence. I wondered where you were the past few months. I'm glad that things appear to be on the mend. Good luck with everything.

I only have to ask if everyone with the name of Gordon feels this irrepressible need to indulge in wild humour? Or is it only the Gordons who choose to be characters on SotW? Regardless, I think a bit of malarky is not the end of the world and can be quite entertaining. That's a "bit of malarky," not all malarky, all the time.

Looking forward to your future postings. Please don't leave too many blood stains on the furniture. Your own keyboard is your own problem.

Why, Gordon, there is not ever an end to anything!

I'm so glad to look at the forum this morning and see that it is you writing here. However, I am not gladdened to hear you've had a difficult time of it this past year. As for the forum being as it has been recently - the upshot of this is first Ritchie returned, and now you have as well. Coincidence or not (Jonathan E once pointed out that old hippies don't believe in coincidence and I would have to agree with him), it would have been very difficult not to join in - what with the two of you contributing. It's a pitifully sad and dull place without mystical maths and ukeleles.

Gordon, what does saol mean? Is it the computer language or something else?
If it is that computer language having to do with audio, could you describe it in a way I might be able to understand?

hey babe :-)

I understood saol to mean smart arsed one liner or similar.

but, if you have a technical question? I'm happy to help. In fact it's on my mind to start a tech thread as that is my other interest in old age. For instance

Vista is sh.....

It's appalling

I'd rather have a mac (only joking there mac fans, if I didn't have something to fiddle with I'd have to post more, wink wink)

(Now that is what I call a saol hahahahahahaha)

What do you mean? Vista & I are getting a long very well!

It is interesting in some ways. Before that the ony thing I had was Windows 98, so I guess i haven't had much to compare it with. I actually like some things I can do with it though. I love how you can use your mouse to drag pictures or music into emails or whatever.

My AOL (Should I tell that on here? My email?) doesn't work very well with it, & it's 9.1 version of it. I have a lot of trouble when first signing online. It is so slow, part of it won't open till I go off line & start over again.
When I first got it, a lot of things didn't work very well. I had a technician come & work on it for me & he told me, "Oh yeah, Vista is having some compatabiltity problems, but they are going to send out a repair kit soon for it, & it should fix those problems." It does get updates all the time, from online. I am not sure what they fix sometimes.
My media player still is jumpy for some reason & I don't understand why this stupid fan kicks on at certain times, but most of the time it is quiet.
But, we get along very well. He he!
