I thought that it might be timely to post a link to this Wikipedia definition of sock puppets:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sockpuppet_%28Internet%29

This has been a (non-judgemental) public service announcement.

Thanks a lot for this information. It is a little bit disturbing what people do on the Internet.

Sock it to him?

Thanks for that Rob. I thought I'd recognised the drivel for what it was, but I wasn't sure what to call it.

Hopefully, Charlie or Zee will be able to see the IP addresses of any offender(s) and therefore check whether they match others on the members' list? Then we will know for sure whether it's 'sock puppets' or just yer common or garden regular internet trolls :)

I think people that do this type of thing are sick. It's insulting.

as painful as the context is, in our present circumstance, (tenalady????)(django style???) (or maybe they're real people, others seem to find them entertaining, but I find it irritating.)...

isn't it cool when you discover a new word... and how our language absorbs new realities

As well as miss-speak we have the related concept - missremember...

the mind boggles

the world googles

Oh them? I thought we were on about that "Charlie". Clearly a fantasist who claims to be a DJ, to be pals with lots of pop stars, to be writing a book, and to have a radio show called 'In A World Of My Own'. He's been flooding this Forum with postings for years. But, perhaps you're right Tom, maybe he is real.

But I do agree about the phrase 'sock puppet'. Language is a wonderful thing, the way it evolves and .. er... you know... whatever.

I am not a sock puppet, I am a man.

However, I am feeling slightly poorly at the moment since being attached to a timber construction. Any one got an aspirin?

Ever since both of my daughters coincidentally gave me cashmere socks for Christmas, I will accept no substitute.

Could this be a clue towards answering David Flower's search for a secret code.?

"Excuse me, puppet, but do you favour Cashmere?"

If the other person socks you on the chin, you know you've located a forumista.

Do they? I certainly don't.

oh go and put your anoraks on and take a look at the real world outside - you might find that a bit entertaining or then again... you may have to take a poll on it, or analyse in some other mind numbing fashion or discuss at great length ad nauseum on these boards or pm each other blah blah blah

lighten up

I think people here just are just being very realistic of how twisted people are in the real world , since the Internet is part of it.

This is a small infestation of Trolls. They will go away after a while just as long as they are ignored completely.

Indeed

I welcome the new members with open arms, whatever colours they choose to post in. How long does that take, switching from colour one to another? These people are are committed!

I'm looking forward to exchanges between Django Style and Neil Foxlee, who for too long as been more or less alone as the champion of reggae.

Tenalady is looking like she will play the role of humorous sceptic, in the way that Jayne did in the early days. Now where did Jayne go, after doing such a great job as DJ at one of the Sound-of-the-World relays?
