Bright, Precious Days

Postby uiwangmike » Sun Aug 07, 2016 2:53 pm

. . . is the title of the new novel by Jay McInerney. I can hear those words in a song (. . . and something-something nights?), but can't place it. Google hasn't helped. Can anyone?

Thanks John. How many million times have I heard it? Anyway, the correct version is "The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night". I see the song is on the soundtrack of Finding Dory, and I'm sure it's been on Radio 4 Soul Music and gets played on desert islands and at funerals, but I find it cringeworthy. I came across this in my researches, which makes me more sympathetic, but only a bit.

On the subject of slightly misheard song lyrics as titles, I recently caught a showing of Edward Yang's A Brighter Summer Day, and realized it came from a familiar Elvis number.

It's not a favourite of mine either. I'd rather hear this -
