I don't believe any of the legends about poor old Robert Johnson but I must admit that I always liked the story that he was poisoned by a jealous lover. That's so perfect. I think he was 27 when he died - as much as anyone can know for sure. The same age as Jimi Hendrix was when he died. I do think they had a lot in common - not least the extraordinary size of their hands and length of their fingers.

After being set up by Ted I feel duty bound to re-iterate the story I first read in one of Charles Shaar Murray's articles: that Hound Dog Taylor did indeed have six fingers on each hand but that he sliced one off with a razor one night after drinking too much Canadian Club. Apparently he had intended to cut off both the extra digits but found the experience so painful that he let the other one be.

My asst. Ed. just picked up a copy of the November Vanity Fair for me on the station on her way into work today. In there, the "new" photo is reproduced full page. Spectacular. Thanks for the tip, Norman.

This story won't lie down and die quietly. There's more on Vanity Fair website.

Today I bought Robert Johnson-King of The Delta Blues. It's really nice listening to him. He's so simple, it just sounds live. Kind of like what I remember hearing in some old movies.

I've been told there's a movie about him called Crossroads.

A "definitive" biography is reportedly being completed.

"Definitive" my arse! It can only be conjecture. Anyone who actually knows any facts is dead. But I suppose it can be well informed conjecture.
