Damon Albarn's new band

Postby Dominic » Wed Sep 06, 2006 7:00 pm

Damon Albarn has got a new band together called The Good The Bad & The Queen. The other members are Tony Allen (ex-Fela Kuti), Paul Simonon (ex-Clash) and Simon Tong (ex-The Verve, also played on some Gorillaz recordings).

The band's website - http://www.thegoodthebadandthequeen.com - hasn't got much going on (yet), but there is a forum and a teaser video clip which cuts off just as the song gets going. According to the NME, there will be a single released on 30th October & deleted on the same day, with an album due next year.

Their live debut will be at the Roundhouse on 26th October as part of the BBC Electric Proms. Most of the tickets have sold out, but 100 will be made available for £5 each nearer the time - details on the website http://www.bbc.co.uk/electricproms
The good old BBC will be filiming for broadcast on TV and online, so you can watch it in Cleveland, or wherever!

Thanks a lot for the information on Damon. I always like to hear about him. I have been seeing this all over the web. I feel frustrated, because there is no way I will see the live thing in London, & the way my computer is, I can't watch any videos, or hear much music. So I am kind of out of luck till next year...?
Here I am this huge fan of someone & I have to search & search so hard to get his music. I almost didn't think I would find a Blur CD without getting a used one, but thank God, I did find one.
That' s why I put that crying thing on. I could put it back here again.
Oh well, I'm sure I will like it when I do get to hear it. I have seen that site you mentioned, but won't write anything on it. I don't like to be "teased".
I already got that earlier this year when trying to find this Gorillaz music, when I finally found out I liked it. I'll just stay away till it comes out some way I can hear it all.

The Good, The Bad And The Queen

Postby Dayna » Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:43 am

Listen on air or on online at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1

I just heard The Good, The Bad And The Queen again. It was just as good as the first time I heard it, except for the way my computer breaks everything up. I loved it all the same as before. I absolutley wish I could have a copy of this live show, so I can hear it again just the way it sounded here. I will probably listen to this several times before it is taken down.
I think sometimes hearing the creative process can be as good as the final creation, that I will eventually hear. Not having an actual name yet, is kind of interesting to me. When they stopped in the middle a song & started it over, I felt like I was there with them while they're putting everything together. It's just part of being creative, I think.
I love the sound of Damon's voice, along with Paul Simonon's bass playing which sticks in my head like the songs he did with Clash. I absolutley loved hearing every note he played. That gives me chills.
I can almost pick out who's guitar style is whose with the two I'm familiar with, because of how I learned of the way Simon Tong played for Gorillaz & that I've been fascinated by the sounds he made.
I don't know if I've heard many singers whistle in their songs before. Is that new? I loved it all. I hope someone else will hear what I thought was special in this music.

For anyone that's interested, they have information on tour dates for them. Unfortunately for me, they're all in UK. Their single is being sold through Amazon, too.

That's what I like about Damon Albarn. There's nothing plastic. He sings good & his music is a creative mixture that sounds good, & different than everyone elses. Not like he copied someone else just to make money (or I meant quik easy money to copy what sold before).

I have been listening to this CD now for awhile & have been able to pay more attention to it. I know this is different from what I said about the concert. The music is very different from what I've heard before & is taking some time to grow on me, but it's intriguing. I like way Herculean has some sounds in it remind you of the sounds in a city. The second one Back In The Day, is just instrumental & I have been able to appreciate what Tony Allen's drumming sounds like a little more. It's great. The third one, Mr. Whippy. I've never really been able to interpret songs very well. I know it's Middle Eastern. The music sounds good.

I found a Q magazine yesterday with a big picture of him on the front & an interveiw. I like how genuine he is as a person. I might not agree with everything he says or does all the time, but that's the way it is with people in your own life. You still like who they are anyway.

I guess I must be the only one that appreciates this music, but really do like this CD now. I listen to it in my car a lot now. It does have kind of a dream like quality and in Herculean, the sounds I hear that are like a city when I have visited a couple big cities before, I have noticed quite a few parts around tall buildings & bridges, that sound kind of echoy like this. In my car stereo, I can hear the drums especially well & can really appreciate Tony Allen's drum playing a lot.

I'm kind of happy this new CD will be out soon & thinking about what it will be like hearing it on the radio. I wonder what station it will be on & which song they'll play. I've been fortunate to get a head start on it at least.
But now I won't be the only one here that has it. Darn!

Thank you again Dominic!

I hope this is OK on here. It's a link to a story about Damon's lost song that he found again. It's hrad to believe this could happen but I guess it did.

Thanks to Dominic for the nice Kingdom of Doom suprise!
There's a red record with it! I don't have a record player, but I'll just enjoy looking at it & listen to the CD.

The two post cards with art on them are nice too. One is from Algeria.

One of the songs on this CD is called The Bunting Song & it sounds very pretty, except I don't really understand it exactly.

Would someone mind telling me what a bunting is? I looked it up in a dictionary but it has two different meanings. Thanks.
