Damon Albarn

Postby Dayna » Sat Jul 01, 2006 2:34 am

I am really interested in talking & learning more about this guy. I can't believe I never knew who he was. Gorillaz characters are neat, but it's the music & the unique creator of all this, that's great. I like the other things I've heard so far, like the Mali Music. I really want to have that one when I can, everything else I can find.

Hello Dayna
I'm curious to know if you've heard Damon Albern's Mali Music. If you haven't, why not take a chance? There's a lot more to him than Gorillaz, good as it is.

Damon Albarn's newest fan

Postby Dayna » Tue Jul 18, 2006 4:15 am

I have finally found Mali Music & it is completely satisfying music. It's Very beautiful. And last night I got to hear one Blur song, after trying to find that.
I practically have heard Damon's whole career within 5 months. It's pretty good. I think I see more than some of the older fans; the whole picture which is a pretty good one. I want to make a collection of all these things as soon as possible. Hopefully I can still find Democrazy somewhere.
I love the way Blur sounds so far, even with two songs I've heard. Mali Music was one I took a chance on, not knowing what I was getting exactly, but it's perfect. I listened to it 100 times or more within the first week I had it.
I want to find other fans to talk to here, sometime.

Last night, I found one Blur song , on the BBC radio site. Blur has the qualities that have been missing here. I missed hearing Blur , because I got side tracked onto other types of things so I didn't hear it.
Here In Ohio, I made a request to hear one, but waited all day & they never played it. Some of the music I heard while waiting, kind of burned a couple brain cells or something.
Most of what I heard on the BBC site, was music I thought had been extinct or something. I hardly ever hear those groups on our stations. It has the quality of music we've been missing for a long time, here in America. Or maybe it's just my area, that doesn't play good music.
I am feeling funny about all the things I put on here, lately, because when I started writing it, I thought I'd find others that are interested in this too. But then i stopped to think, I am not educated in music, but just rambling on; talking to myself about what I think, only it's to everyone... sorry if anything here has been bothersome to anyone.
I will stop here i think.

blur

Postby Dayna » Mon Aug 07, 2006 5:23 pm

I saw my very first Blur video this weekend.
How refreshing it was to see this & the fact that he's one of the few that can actually sing, not do a bunch of yelling & screaming like most others.

What a great singing voice!

Dayna, I for one look forward to your posts, which got me thinking just how much 'you've come on' since you first started posting.

and then I thought, 'if Dayna was on a desert island' like on the radio programme but you were only allowed one book , one film , ten records, one favourite sit com and one friend from the Sound of the world forum (it can't be Charlie though) then who would it be?

Would it be someone who had the same tastes as you? or complete opposite?

anyway it was just a thought...think I'll just go and put the kettle on.

Not sure I understand all that. I don't know what radio program that is really. I have a variety of tastes. But it would be nice to know people who has similar tastes. If I was stuck on an island with someone, I hope it wouldn't be someone just into this newer Pop music. I'll keep that one to myself.
Just one funny thing to tell you:
I am listening to my radio station from Cleveland, Ohio. Our football season is about to start. The Cleveland Browns & Pittsburgh Steelers have always been huge rivals. You should hear all the ridiculous songs they've made up about that. Mostly parodies.
I am so happy I got to see that Blur video this week end. It's not like I've lived on an island, so I never heard this music before. I did hear Song 2 off & on, but during the time theywere popular I got side tracked into other types of music, so I just didn't listen to it. Now I'm backtracking, trying to find all these things about Damon that I've missed.
I'm having an adventure with all this & can appreciate it a different way than most people. Tonight I got to see a show about Gorillaz, cartoon studios. That was nice, but I'd rather see the real Damon Albarn.

time zones

Postby Dayna » Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:11 am

This time zone thing is hard to comprehend at times.
Right now in Ohio, it's August 7, 2006--- 10:07PM.
In UK, it's August 8, 2006, Tuesday. 1:00Am.
One night, my friend from England, came online & I was online. It was 2;00 AM here & about 5:00 there. It was kind of a strange feeling when she came online & said good morning to me & I had never even gone to sleep yet!

this is what happenes when your mind is tired from work.

Postby Dayna » Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:36 am

Only 10 records? it would be kind of nice to have no TV & not know of the things going on around the world. There's not much on TV I even like anymore.
One of each of Damons, CDs. My Mannheim Steamroller CDs & that song by Gnarls Barkley. I could play them all one after another.
I'd like to have a couple horses, some dogs & cats, & other animals. My pastels & paper, so I can enjoy his lovely voice & draw the scenery. I hope I can listen to my Browns games somehow.
I like these Readers Digest Condensed books my Grandma gave me. Stories of life in the West.

The Gorillaz show I saw on MTV was called Cribs. It was showing how Rock stars live. They showed the cartoon place where the characters live, & it was nice.
I loved what Murdoc said, about all those Rock stars houses looking the same. They sure didn't impress me much, with all their "stuff".

questions

Postby Dayna » Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:04 pm

I've found some more clips of Blur music, & really love what I have heard very much. To me it sounds a lot like the music that was popular in the 60's & 70's, with the guitars, ect.
Is it true, as some websites have said, that they never got as popular in America?
I am one that really appreciates some music that sounds good like that. Plus great singing too.
I don't know why I haven't heard a lot of their music. I feel like hitting myself because of this. But during the 90's I was off in a different world, with other styles of music & just didn't pay attention. I did hear Song 2 before, but it was on the Sports station I listen to. I never realized who it was by. The other sample I heard was Parklife. That one sounds just as good. I can't wait to find more of this music.
What really happened as far as them struggling to be popular here in America?

aaah .....dont look at the eyes!

Postby ritchie » Wed Aug 09, 2006 10:43 pm

aaah Dayna, you got me 'hook line and sinker'.

Here was I happy to listen to 'the rolling stones' 'now' album and you set me off making my mind a 'blur' with your post.

A couple of years ago, there I was , sitting in Newcastle railway station waiting to meet someone. As I was early I thought I'd partake in some refreshment in the hostelery attached to the aforesaid railway station.

So there I was, me and my pint of Guiness ....waiting....waiting and on the juke box comes this incredible song ...." oh my baby, oh my baby"...you know when you know something but you can't remember what it is....and it starts driving you mad....and you've got to know....you've got to find out....well, I just slowly drank my Guiness knowing it always comes to those who wait....ha! more haste less speed I say....but as soon as I got home I rang my youngest son's girlfriend and sang what I thought was the song to her..... "tender" by blur she said.

She bought me blur:the best of for my birthday.

Do people like Guiness in the U S of A?

drinks

Postby Dayna » Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:53 pm

I don't know much about beer. I know people here, love whatever alcohol they can get.
Hearing you sing those lyrics makes me feel a bit impatient. I want to hear more of his music! I should be able to get a CD soon, & maybe trade in this clunker computer.
They sound good though.
I know Tender is from his 13 CD. Which I've read about, but never heard.
This is really an interesting post.

How about a brand new flavor of Diet Pepsi, that's called Jazz?

I found it a couple days ago at the store, & there's two different ones:
Strawberry & Cream
Black Cherry & French Vanilla

My favorite is the Black Cherry & French Vanilla.
Gee! What a combination!
