The search engine won't help me with this one, but it doesn't seem as if we've made a list of best names - I mean real the-name's-right-there-on-the-record type names. Even just the last few days we've had some good ones;

Rabbit Muse.

H-Bomb Ferguson.

Ironing-Board Sam.

Pigmeat Markam.

And so on...... there must be lots of them.

Sam the Sham.

John Peel once claimed to have seen a band in Texas called Stark Naked and the Car Thieves, but I don't know if he was making it up.

A bit hard to know where to take this thread as you can't beat the well known ones - Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Bumble Bee Slim, Winged Eel Fingerling etc., but to continue the John Peel theme, I seem to remember a time when he credited almost every track to the fictional (I presume) EDDIE LEE BEPPO.

Pretty mainstream/Radio 2 they may be, but I always liked 'Telephone Bill & the Smooth Operators' and 'Max Headroom & the Car Parks'.

'Howlin' Wilf' was a pretty good name too.

And 'Gid Tanner & His Skillet Lickers' has to be in there.

Looking through my iTunes list of artists, the As give us:

'Al Hopkins & His Buckle Busters'
'AA Gray & Seven Foot Dilly'
'Alma "Miss Lollipop" Mondy'
'Alvin "Snake Eyes" Tyler'
'The Amazing Farmer Singers of Chicago'
'Arizona Dranes'

To me (as a Dutchman) the name Hapshash and the Coloured Coat sounded pretty weird.

I also liked Frank Sumatra, people were always telling me the singers name was Sinatra not Sumatra.
