Just come across Rebecca Malope (supposedly the Queen of SA gospel - live clip here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW9y2Q949nI ) and briefly checked out the Soweto Gospel Choir, but what would forumistas recommend?
I can recommend the Rough Guide to South African Gospel, which was released in 2003. It has a great selection, with extensive notes by Rob Allingham - these are unfortunately in white print on coloured pages, making them a real pain to read!

I'd also reccommend "South African Gospel Accroding to Earthworks" put out by Sterns / Earthworks 10 years ago. It's not as comprehensive is the Rough Guide, but contains some wonderful music.
