I won't attempt a review of this; suffice to say I bought it today, I like it, and I think it will appeal to some of you here.

This is the opening track, and it's a pretty accurate taster for the rest of the album:

Danny Baker once said something along the lines of: if you wear shorts in February you get to tell everyone how ahead of the curve you were, when they starting wearing their's in July. Or at least you would, if you hadn't died of pneumonia.

Did you know Orlando Julius co-wrote this classic disco stomper with Lamont Dozier? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99p35Dk8EV4

Here he is, reclaiming it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdHjFxb5TqA

Hope some of you might read my interview with OJ in the new issue of Songlines (part of a joint 'giants of Afrrobeat' cover story, fearturing interviews with both OJ and Tony Allen, although it's only TA's face that appears on the cover).

Did OJ invent Afrobeat before Fela came along? Debatable point; but he lent Fela four members of his band the Modern Aces to get him started!
