NEW ORLEANS FUNK 3

I was with Nick H in Brighton's Borderline Records (great shop) the other week and saw this new Soul Jazz comp'. I already own a few tunes on it but there were lots I didn't own (and some artists I had never heard of) so when in Soho last Thursday I picked up a copy at Sounds Of The Universe (another great shop) for £10.99. Money well spent! This comp' is full of lost gems and is really strong throughout - it opens with Willie West (who?) and closers with The Rubaiyats (who??) and has many outstanding tunes including the Dixie Cups doing Two-Way Pock-A Way and brilliant it is too!

I've become a New Orleans obsessive over recent years so a specialised comp' like this is right up my street. Beautifully packaged with a fine booklet - Soul Jazz really are an exceptional label!

I came across this one by him a couple of years ago - a new recording too!

I would just like to add my 6 pennyworth, that this is indeed a very fine compilation.

Edit: and, stone me, that track that Norman has posted is bloody great.

I don't wish to lay it on (why not? Flaunt it! Boast!) but we played it on "No Reason" podcast in Oct. 2011, in between Buika and Alvin Robinson. Show still available for download, folks.
