Coming soon from Bear Family Records - "The first comprehensive documentation of the sounds and images of black people in Europe pre-1927"; with two coffee-table LP-sized books, and 40 CDs, extremely deep pockets would be a requirement I imagine.

Thanks for that John. Bear Family can never be accused of doing things by half - this requires pockets deep enough to have a spare £450 in them.

It makes you wonder who their target market is, and how many they think they'll shift.

I'd like to suggest libraries, but they've been knocked for six in the last couple of years. Academic archives perhaps? The written material sounds very attractive, and probably is detailed - so a music only download (if there is one) wouldn't be a substitute. Maybe they do a short run - a few hundred? - and know it'll break even at the very least.

Yes, I thought maybe Libraries. It occurred to me that, beyond our shores, there are, perhaps, enlightened states somewhere that still value such institutions and provide funds adequate for them to stack their shelves with artefacts such as "Black Europe".

Then I realised I was just being silly.
