A free open-air concert in central Bristol to mark Bristol Refugee Week attracted a small but appreciative audience. Kasai Masai were brilliantly dance-friendly with their energetic and superbly-played Soukous-inspired tunes - why is this band not more well-known?

Emmanuel Jal just gets better as a live act and tonight he was the best yet, showing off some great new tunes and dancing like a thing possessed. I detected a new confidence and an ability to just enjoy himself as well as convey those very political (and in one song called Vagina extremely hard-hitting) raps. He even rapped the Lord's Prayer - eat your heart out Sir Cliff!
