I know Aly and I share a great enthusiasm for Chastity Brown's 2013 album Back Roads Highway. She's finally coming to the UK with her band so I'm really looking forward to seeing her (last year she did an acoustic gig which was good but with a band should be great!). I'm considering going to see her at the Maverick Festival in Suffolk in July - apparently a very likeable small festival with an Americana theme. Though a festival on a tiny Scottish island also appeals. Anyway, here's Ms Brown's dates!

I saw Chastity on Saturday at Maverick and she was brilliant. Playing with guitarist and drummer, she sang with such beauty and character it had everyone cheering.

I highly recommend you try and catch one of her forthcoming UK dates!

She's on at The 100 Club tonight! The most talented American artist I can think of under 30. She rocked Maverick Festival with her trio. Very highly recommended!

Menai Bridge is a village someway between the backwoods of Canada and the Bayou by way of Austin. On a warm summer evening the back bar of the juke joint, near the banks of the muddy waterway, you can hear the blues. It could be the intimate atmosphere (it could be promoter Owen Hughes’s hospitality). It might be the Friday night catfish fry….. but they keep coming back. Chip Taylor, Albert Lee,Carrie Rodriguez, the Savoy Family, Mud Morgensteen the list goes on. Last night it was Chastity Brown who “loved this place last time - I needed to come back with my trio”. Chastity reminded us what is so great about good soulful musicians playing to a live audience in a small venue. There was no irreverent chatter and noisy clinks of bottles (which surprises may of our transatlantic visitors)- there was the intense pleasure of engagement with music from performers and audience. The conversation was between us and them - becoming we. Chastity could talk to the audience at so many levels, it wasn’t just the great sounds Luke was getting from his guitar - we saw his body language and face musculature reveal the intensity of thought and emotion he was investing in his music and Greg casually demonstrating what it is to be a quietly competent percussionist. Live music lives. I liked the way she finds interstitial spaces between blues, folk and indie genres. I like that everything she sings - even when they are written by other artists she made them and the emotions they conveyed her own. There was a great deal of honesty on stage - and we were to close to her, in every way, for her to fake it. A grand night out.

Soon we will greet Jimmy Devraux,Randy Vidrine and David Buyle - so spruce up and treat your best gal to a night of two-step. Y’all come back now.

Sadly missed her at this years Hebridean Celtic Festival on the Isle of Lewis. I had been driving for the festival earlier in the week, but ended up not going to anything that evening - even missed AfroCelts! Sniff
