Monooka is a Transylvanian singer who performs the ancient songs of Romania's legendary northern region. Monooka was born and raised in Transylvania and came to learn the traditional folk songs of the region as a child. She has since sung them across Romania, the UK, Spain, France and other nations. Her ethereal voice and the mysterious beauty of the music is truly enchanting.

On this rare London performance she will sing songs of the peasants and Gypsies and Hungarians and Vlach, harking back to the ancient days when Vlad Dracul ruled Transylvania. Accompanied by a Romanian combo, Monooka promises a night of Transylvanian traditional song. And, perhaps, puppetry.

As usual, I'm DJ-ing, event starts at 7.30pm and entry is FREE. I greatly encourage anyone with an interest in folk and/or Balkan music to attend this concert.

Just a reminder that the divine Transylvanian folk singer Monooka is on at my Ritzy gig tonight. It's rare to now hear anyone singing the tradition female ballads of northern Romania - anyone who has ever listened to Romica Puceanu, Gaby Lunca or Maria Tanase will understand the eerie, exquisite beauty of such music. If that's not convinced you to attend then all I can add is that if Charlie were around he would surely have booked Monooka for a Saturday night radio session!
