Guesting at this party, which features live music from DJ Relay favourites Grupo Lokito. I'm scheduled to DJ 10.40 - 11.40, after which the band play their first set.

All Forumistas most welcome.

I'm particularly looking forward to exploring the delights of the "Brazilian cocktail shack"

I saw in 2015 dancing to Grupo Lokito, drink in hand, big silly grin on face, thinking that there isn't really anywhere I'd rather be.

Rich Mix can be a bit of an atmosphere-less space. But last night, done up with tropical decor and just full enough to feel warm and buzzing (but not so packed as to be uncomfortable) it did just fine. The promised Brazilian cocktail shack never materialised, but that was probably for the best in the long run.

We got the full Lokito line-up, complete with drums and trumpet. All lightness and swing, the Congolese and Cuban rhythms bubbling together over two late night sets.

Beats staying in and dozing off to Jools Holland hands down I'd say.

So does dozing off before Jools Holland gets on air.

It is unacceptably bad form to not see in the new year with a little music and dancing but, this year, I plead guilty. I went to sleep, perchance to dream, with the full expectation of being awoken at midnight by my neighbour trying to outdo Boris Johnson in the fireworks department. He did/didn't disappoint. It sounded like a battle zone for fully an hour and I failed to get back to the land of nod. It would be churlish to be angry but I'm so knackered now I might as well have had the hangover and the fun involved in getting it.

Happy New Year (good luck with that) to all forumistas.

Having now watched the offending programme, I really can't argue with that. Today's plastic pop stars murdering other people's back catalogue, old & past it pop stars murdering their own back catalogue, Jools trying not to look bored with the whole thing. I fast forwarded a lot & didn't make it to the end, but from what I saw the only things worth bothering with were Ruby Turner belting out a bit of gospel & Jo Brand's Robbie Williams joke.

in order to wipe such horrible corporate crap from my memory, here's Grupo Lokito socking it to em in that well know African music capital Shoreham https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVANNnwLBh4

(I could really do with some peanuts now)
