I'll be recovering from eye surgery on Sat 13th, so Ramon Goose has taken on my Shout Collective session at Jamboree, when he’ll be launching his GigsforGaza initiative with a great line-up including Anglo-Asian legend Najma Akhtar, Algerian rai powerhouse Cheb Nacim + Ramon’s own band.

Forumistas Norman, Aly and Joe Cushley will all be on deck duty in my stead.

Details and tickets available here: http://www.jamboreevenue.co.uk/events/r ... -announced

I want to say Good Luck with the surgery Jamie but I trust luck shouldn't come into it. Speedy recovery then eh?

The bill is growing - the latest addition being Adrian Nation.

I think you'd especially like him, Will. You know where Jamboree is....

Such a varied bill, it might be hard to decide what to DJ. I guess I'll go with the usual mix of barmy obscurity and hope for some toe tapping.

Lots of good thoughts going out to you, Jamie. I hope you have a sparkly star on the eye patch, like James Booker's.

Thanks Will and Norman

I wish I could be there on Saturday, but it'll be early to bed with an eyepatch for me.

Norman, we've talked about this before in another context, but we could spin a few tracks by eye patch wearing performers...
Big good wishes for a restful recuperation Jamie.
Aly

Thanks Aly

PS If I hear you've been playing tunes by Dr Hook and Gabrielle, they'll be trouble

Not the greatest surprise in the world -that I can't make it tonight. To my huge surprise I'm at a CND gathering tonight. Chas N Dave that is. I like 'em well enough and I saw them in a pub in the seventies. Tonight, in a huge fall from her usual cultural heights, my wife has given in to her unaccountable Chas worship and as part of our ongoing silver wedding celebrations we are off to The Watford Colloseum no less, taking up seats at a price you could, in living memory once have bought a small car for. Gertcha !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your silver wedding anniversary Will. If you get back from Watford in time tonight and are still in the mood for some more CND, this is on BBC4 : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nkdsv

It went really well. No, really really well.

Four excellent acts, who just got on with it and played hard-hitting sets that didn't stray over time.

The opener, Adrian Nation, was a very good acoustic guitarist and singer. Jamie, please consider him for any future event, you wouldn't be let down.

Najmar Akhtar is - for what my opinion's worth - one of the best singers in the UK today. Her current project is looking at musical links between trad British and Indian song. Her rendition of "Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair" was beautiful. Ramon Goose's accompaniment (they've been working together) was underplayed and perfect. Najmar's mum was there - I know she approved too.

The only live rai music I've heard is in concert halls rather than an intimate club like Jamboree. I guess that every major music form has a following somewhere in London, and Cheb Nacim had his fans with him tonight. Young, handsome, Algerians who - danced! - and sang along.

World Scatterings is the latest (of this year's) collaborations put together by Ramon Goose: two guitars (Ramon and Aziz Ibrahim of Stone Roses fame), two percussionists, Cassandre Balbar on whistles and Breton pipes, and a string bass player. Loud, rocking, bluesy-worldy, and a perfect ending to the night.

Some of the best gigs I've seen have been at Jamboree, and last night's certainly up there.

Called on to do some MCing, I desperately wanted to do The Guvnor Jamie's "Do you want to hear another one??" But, sadly, for every act, there wasn't time for any encore; besides which, that would have been like nicking his playlist, and we're not like that round here.

Thanks to Jamie and Ramon for organising this event. It did raise money - around £500 will be going to Medical Aid for Palestinians http://www.map-uk.org/
